PSA National Statistician and Civil Registrar General Claire Dennis Mapa said the new system makes it easier for Filipinos to prove their identity anytime. “For everyone who has successfully registered, your National ID is just a few taps away. We encourage you to access your Digital National ID immediately through the eGovPH app and use it in daily transactions,” Mapa said.
How to Access the eGovPH Digital National ID
To get the eGovPH Digital National ID, users must first register with the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys). After registration, they can open the eGovPH app on their mobile phones to view their ID. Each digital ID includes a QR code that can be scanned for verification during transactions.
Authorities reminded the public that printing the digital ID on paper or plastic is prohibited, as only the PSA is authorized to issue physical cards. Unauthorized reproduction is punishable under Republic Act No. 11055, or the PhilSys Act.
Digital Senior Citizen ID
The government has also launched the Digital National Senior Citizen ID, which is available through the same eGovPH app.
Seniors who are registered in the system will automatically receive their digital ID, removing the need to line up at government offices to claim one. The card shows the holder’s name, photo, date of birth, ID number, and a QR code that can be used in pharmacies, transport terminals, supermarkets, and other accredited establishments nationwide.
National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) Chairperson and CEO Mary Jean Loreche said the launch is a breakthrough for digital governance, especially for the elderly. The senior citizen ID was developed with accessibility in mind, using bigger text, high-contrast elements, and a simplified layout to ensure ease of use for the elderly.
Why It Matters
According to the PSA, the rollout of the eGovPH Digital National ID forms part of its collaboration with the DICT to push digital transformation in government, cut red tape, and make essential services more accessible to Filipinos nationwide.
“Since the launch of the Digital National ID, we have seen how it empowered Filipinos by making transactions faster and more convenient. We urge our kababayans who have not yet downloaded their copy to do so now through the eGovPH app,” the agency said.
Aside from convenience, the government assured the public that the IDs are protected by strict data privacy and cybersecurity protocols.
PSA and DICT assured the public that the digital IDs are valid nationwide and will be honored by local government units and partner agencies.
Senior Citizens in Numbers
PSA data show that in 2020, there were more than 9.2 million senior citizens in the country, or about 8.5 percent of the population.
Officials said the eGovPH Senior Citizen ID will help older Filipinos claim their discounts and privileges with less hassle, sparing them from long waits and lengthy processing.
Final Note
The rollout of the eGovPH Digital National ID and the Senior Citizen e-ID signals another step in the government’s move toward wider digital services. Officials said the move is meant to cut down on paperwork and ease long queues, while giving Filipinos a more practical and secure way of presenting valid identification.
